How to add a “Email Me” link

This article will explain how to forward an hyperlink to an email address.  This is that familiar “Contact” link on the bottom of many websites.

It is really basic, you start with the <a> just like you start every hyperlink.  But this time, instead of using “http://” you use, “mailto” to establish the link.  Follow the example below:

<a href=”mailto:example@sample-email.com”>Contact me</a>

That is how easy it is!  Best of luck with you all.

Italic Html Tag

The italic html tag is used to make text slanted as in the example here:

This is an example of a italic text.

To make a text or a word italic we use the “i” tag.

For example; I went to the <i>castle</i> by the river.

This would show like this;

I went to the castle by the river.

What is FTP and How does it work ?

What is a FTP ?

FTP stands for File Transfer Program, as you can tell by it’s name, it is used to transfer files.  FTP is the most secure and easy way to exchange data over the internet.  My personal definition of FTP is; “To transfer a file from one computer to another”.

In our case, it is used to transfer our files to the host computer, you can use a FTP Program to make it easy and simple.  For my needs, I use WS_FTP and I would recommend it to anyone who needs a FTP program.

How does FTP work ?

There is basically 5 steps to performing FTP.
Step 1: Connect to the internet. (Just as you would if you were browsing)
Step 2: Start WS_FTP Program. (You can find this program in the Start menu, under All Programs, in the program group called IPSwitch Ws_ftp).
Step 3: Establish a connection to a file resource. (You may need to create a connection profile if this is the first time that you have used WS FTP)
Step 4; Download or Upload your files
Step 5: End the Session

How to use FTP on Internet Explorer

Using FTP on internet explorer is one of the most easiest things you can do. You can NOT use Ftp on Internet Explorer 7 or higher.   However, you can still get around this and access Ftp through your computer, open up My Documents, or My computer and follow the process below from Step #2.

#1- Run Internet Explorer.

#2-Go to the address bar and type: ftp://name-of-your-site.com

#3-Enter your FTP Client password information.

#4-If you’re a Windows server user go to the folder named “HttpDocs” / If you use a Linux based hosting, go to folder named “Public_Html”

#5-Upload your files to this directory. After you are done, go to http://www.name-of-your-site.com and check out what you just uploaded.

How much does it cost to make a website?

The cost of a website can be a huge deal if you do not know what you are expecting.  The cost really depends on what type of a site you are planning to make.

If you are going to make a blog, then your good with about $8 for a domain name per year.

You hosting might cost 5-10$ per month.

If you are making a website for a business, or a website that you will advertise and drive “crazy” traffic to it, then you might still be good for the same amount of money for a domain but..you will have to buy a better hosting service.

Domain = $8/year

Web hosting costs = 10-20$ per month.

For these prices you have to do a good research and get a reliable hosting service.  I recommend Hostgator.com

If you already have your content and files coded and ready to go, good for you.  But if you have nothing right now, you can go 2 ways.

  1. Use a free system like Wordpress, SMF, PHP-Nuke ect.
  2. Get someone to code a script for you.

The cost of a coder will depend on what you are getting done and who you are getting it done with.  I recommend you go to forums.digitalpoint.com and find a coder there, it will be much cheaper then going to a professional company.

You could also do it yourself as well…that’s if you know how to of course.
