Does link directories really help your site?

Have you ever thought of submitting your website to link directories? Maybe once, twice or even way too many times and you’re just not seeing anything changing with your rankings in search engines?

Every web page you have your link on is always an plus towards your website.  It is like a scaling system, every link to your site is a point towards your website, the website with highest points gets to rank better and a better ranking website is what you want.

Some people might low scale directory sites since they contain many other links.  But do NOT be fooled, every and again every link to your site is a plus and it will work your website up, sometimes it might take the search engines days, weeks and even months to scan that directory site since it contains a lot of links, and only links.

I have had a lot of success with directory sites both in traffic, building reputation, and page rank.  I prefer it to every webmaster and suggest you do not low scale directory sites.

Pop-up Blocker

So, having troubles with annoying pop-ups that open up out of nowhere?  Well your browser has tools where you can stop any unwanted pop-ups.

Internet Explorer has a pop-up blocker where you can allow certain websites to run pop-ups and you can disallow any other untrusted websites.  You can find more info and a video tutorial on this link: http://www.google.com/support/toolbar/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=9171

For other browsers, I suggest you to download the Google Toolbar which is featured with bunch of useful tools including a pop-up blocker.

All this is for free!  Never pay for a Pop-up blocker.

How many posts should you post a day?

So here it is, how do we know how many blogs to post to post a day? Or, How often should you post a blog?

I have observed my friends in the industry and some big blogs.  I had a friend who dropped right onto Google 1st page in 2 months, he used to add about 5-10 blog posts everyday.  But he never SPAMMED.  Spamming is BAD!

I also know this other lady, owner of 2createawebsite.com her blog is updated once or twice a week and seems to be really working.

Some big sites only update couple times a day whom receive big traffic.

I use to update my sites once a day and it really worked out, I didn’t update it for 2 months now and the traffic dropped about 60%

So I THINK you should update your site about once a day to keep it alive for the search engine traffic.

What is FTP and How does it work ?

What is a FTP ?

FTP stands for File Transfer Program, as you can tell by it’s name, it is used to transfer files.  FTP is the most secure and easy way to exchange data over the internet.  My personal definition of FTP is; “To transfer a file from one computer to another”.

In our case, it is used to transfer our files to the host computer, you can use a FTP Program to make it easy and simple.  For my needs, I use WS_FTP and I would recommend it to anyone who needs a FTP program.

How does FTP work ?

There is basically 5 steps to performing FTP.
Step 1: Connect to the internet. (Just as you would if you were browsing)
Step 2: Start WS_FTP Program. (You can find this program in the Start menu, under All Programs, in the program group called IPSwitch Ws_ftp).
Step 3: Establish a connection to a file resource. (You may need to create a connection profile if this is the first time that you have used WS FTP)
Step 4; Download or Upload your files
Step 5: End the Session

How to use FTP on Internet Explorer

Using FTP on internet explorer is one of the most easiest things you can do. You can NOT use Ftp on Internet Explorer 7 or higher.   However, you can still get around this and access Ftp through your computer, open up My Documents, or My computer and follow the process below from Step #2.

#1- Run Internet Explorer.

#2-Go to the address bar and type: ftp://name-of-your-site.com

#3-Enter your FTP Client password information.

#4-If you’re a Windows server user go to the folder named “HttpDocs” / If you use a Linux based hosting, go to folder named “Public_Html”

#5-Upload your files to this directory. After you are done, go to http://www.name-of-your-site.com and check out what you just uploaded.
